Book Reports
Each month your child will be asked to do a book report. The book reports focus on the following literary elements: major characters, minor characters, setting, plot, problem and solution. At the beginning of each month your child will conference with Miss Frueh to find a “good fit” book for them to use for their book report. The books may come from home, school library or the classroom library.
The book your child chooses must meet the following criteria:
_____chapter book
_____book is in THEIR Lexile range
_____book not read before
_____ Reading Counts quiz book
**After all these have been met Miss Frueh will approve the book to be used as the book report choice.
Once students have an approved book then need to pace themselves to finish the book in a timely manner. Each student will be given a book report calendar to assist them in planning for their report. I suggest hanging this calendar on the fridge at home. Use the calendar as a learning tool and help your child to meet their page goal every day.
While students are reading their book for their book report I encourage them to use the notetaking page to keep notes about what they are reading. The notetaking page will assist them in writing their draft and final report.
I know the thought of a book report can sound scary to both students and parents. The goal of the report is to help your child to experience reading success, practice finding the literary elements and follow the writing process. Use the book report power point if you have questions.
